Easter Wishes Event Brings Europeans Together Through Tradition and Cooperation

From 20 to 22 February 2026, the city of Medina de Rioseco, Spain, hosted the first major event of the Easter Wishes project, bringing together 127 participants from eight European countries. The event united local authorities, civil society organisations, experts, and citizens to explore how Easter Week traditions can be preserved while promoting sustainability, inclusion, and European cooperation.

The programme featured expert presentations, debates, brainstorming sessions, and visits to local churches and the Easter Week Museum. Participants exchanged experiences on Easter celebrations across Europe and discussed ways to make cultural traditions more accessible to young people, migrants, and people with disabilities.

Throughout the event, attendees examined the role of cultural heritage in strengthening European identity and community engagement. Workshops and discussions focused on sharing best practices, encouraging intercultural dialogue, and promoting active citizenship. Special attention was also given to gender equality and the participation of women in community development and sustainability initiatives.

The event concluded with strengthened partnerships between municipalities and organisations, increased awareness of the social and environmental impact of traditional celebrations, and the development of new ideas for future collaboration. The Easter Wishes project demonstrated how cultural traditions can serve as a bridge between communities, fostering a stronger sense of belonging across Europe.
