Green It Your Work

Green IT Your Work – Greener European Cities aims to highlight the vital role of youth in the green transition and promote green jobs as a civic response to the COVID-19 crisis.

The project fosters dialogue, debate, and youth participation in environmental decision-making across Europe. It connects 8 European cities in a 24-month collaboration focused on experience-sharing, intercultural exchange, and local implementation of green strategies through events, seminars, and discussions.

Dialogue for Green Transition - WP1

The Green IT Your Work project officially launched with its inaugural event, “Dialogue for Green Transition,” organized by Asociatia Se Poate in Sinaia, Romania, from February 26 to March 1. This vibrant gathering brought together 50 participants from 8 European countries, all committed to shaping a more sustainable future.

The event featured interactive sessions such as project briefings, a project management strategy workshop, and an open debate on key EU green initiatives like the European Skills Agenda and the Green Deal. A highlight of the program was the role-playing forum theatre, which engaged participants in exploring real-life challenges of the green transition.

Representing a diverse demographic of youth and NGO members, the participants contributed to discussions, planned future collaboration, and helped set the foundation for the project’s implementation. This event not only fostered intercultural exchange but also empowered young people to reflect on their roles in driving environmental change.

Green Challenges – The Future is Now- WP2

2nd Transnational Event – Alicante, Spain | May 9–12, 2024

The second event of the Green IT Your Work project took place in Alicante, Spain, hosted by Diputación Provincial de Alicante. Gathering 51 participants from 8 European countries, the event focused on innovative environmental practices and youth engagement in sustainability.

Highlights included a visit to the MARQ museum and the Warriors of Xian exhibition, followed by discussions on internal project guidelines. Three SMEs shared inspiring green business models: L’ALICANTINA.COM, LA LLUM CREATIVA, and SILVOTURISMO MEDITERRÁNEO.

Participants also explored a local composting initiative at Hogar Provincial and experienced hands-on environmental education at Casa Tápena in Onil, showcasing green career opportunities for youth.

The event emphasized real-world solutions and cross-cultural exchange, continuing the project’s mission to empower young people in shaping a greener Europe.

Green Practices - Make It Real - WP3

3rd Transnational Event – Agia, Greece | August 29 – September 1, 2024

The third event of the Green IT Your Work project took place in Agia, Greece, hosted by the Municipality of Agia. It brought together 56 participants from 7 European countries to explore practical environmental innovations and local sustainability strategies.

The program began with a visit to JOIST Environmental Innovation Park in Larissa, where participants discovered innovative green technologies. They also heard from SMEs like the Hellenic Energy Competence Center and Alpha Wood, showcasing energy solutions and biomass production in Greece.

Through a virtual session, Diputación de Alicante presented ongoing initiatives on green jobs, while Agia’s local authority shared its integrated approach to sustainable agriculture, food production, and tourism. A visit to the Holy Monastery highlighted eco-friendly, biologically farmed products crafted by local nuns.

On the second day, attendees hiked the Melivoia–Velika trail on Mount Kissavos, learning about rural ecotourism infrastructure and community engagement. Later, at the Let’s Learn Youth Centre, young locals discussed green career paths in agriculture and tourism. The event concluded with the Apple Festival and Saint Anthony’s religious celebration—honoring Agia’s identity as Greece’s leading apple-producing region.

Despite last-minute changes due to illness, the event succeeded in fostering green awareness and career inspiration among youth across Europe.

Green IT Your Skills - WP4

4th Transnational Event – Nicosia, Cyprus | December 4–7, 2024

The fourth event of the Green IT Your Work project, hosted by CARDET in Nicosia, Cyprus, gathered 50 participants from 8 European countries to explore youth engagement in sustainable practices and climate action.

The program opened with expert-led sessions on climate change, sustainable fashion, urban design, and air quality—paired with interactive activities and group reflection. Participants also joined a city tour visiting local businesses that integrate green practices with youth involvement.

A study visit to Agros village followed, where attendees learned directly from eco-conscious entrepreneurs and a youth center focused on climate education. These exchanges provided practical insights into sustainability, community involvement, and green career opportunities.

 

The event strengthened cross-border collaboration and empowered young people to reflect on their environmental impact and future roles in shaping a sustainable Europe.

It's Time for Green Start - WP5

5th Transnational Event – Balbriggan, Ireland | March 6–7, 2025

The fifth Green IT Your Work event took place in Balbriggan, Ireland, hosted by the Fingal Economic Development Department during Local Enterprise Week. Under the theme “It’s Time for a Green Start,” the event gathered representatives from seven European countries to promote youth-driven sustainability and green entrepreneurship.

On Day 1, young entrepreneurs from Ardgillan Community College impressed delegates with eco-friendly business concepts like Recycled Jar and Sustainable Candles. Attendees also joined a Local Enterprise Week panel with prominent Irish entrepreneurs and visited Cliff Farm to learn about digital tools in conservation grazing.

Day 2 focused on local innovation. Foróige Balbriggan showcased their Technology Hub, while Fingal officials presented sustainability programs such as Green Schools. A visit to Techcrete highlighted corporate efforts toward net-zero carbon goals, and the Smart Balbriggan workshop closed the event with forward-thinking dialogue.

The event underscored the critical role of youth and community collaboration in building greener, more innovative cities across Europe.

Green Portals For You(th) - WP6

6th Transnational Event – May 20–23, 2024

The sixth event of the Green IT Your Work project took place in Kočevje, Slovenia, highlighting local best practices in sustainability and green employment opportunities for youth.

Over two active days, 50 participants explored how the Municipality of Kočevje integrates green transition principles into local governance, tourism, education, and entrepreneurship. Highlights included a workshop on youth communication portals, showcasing Slovenia’s national youth platform mlad.si, and a creative team activity using the eco-certified wooden toy “Kostrukta.”

Participants visited local businesses, schools, and nature initiatives including the GRETA program at Kočevje Grammar School, “The Eagle’s Path” forest trail, and Kocjančič Organic Farm. A guided tour of Intersocks introduced sustainable business models and green job pathways.

The event concluded at the Kočevje Business Incubator with a presentation of the Career Centre for Youth project and a collaborative reflection on ideas for future partnerships.

This gathering emphasized hands-on learning, youth-led action, and the potential of local initiatives to shape sustainable futures across Europe.

Green Transition Needs Synergy - WP7

7th Transnational Event – Pregrada, Croatia | September 24–27, 2024

Hosted by the City of Pregrada, the seventh Green IT Your Work event brought together 51 participants from eight European countries to explore how collaboration and civic engagement can drive the green transition at the local level.

The event kicked off with an open debate titled “Greener Together,” focusing on civic participation in local governance and showcasing successful sustainability initiatives. Youth participants engaged in a creative workshop, “What Synergy Can Bring?”, using artistic expression to explore the power of collaboration in environmental action.

The highlight was the Green Synergy Conference, where stakeholders, governance members, and youth shared achievements, discussed sustainable solutions, and participated in interactive sessions. The emphasis was on empowering young people to take an active role in green decision-making and fostering a shared vision for sustainable communities.

With a mix of panel discussions, hands-on workshops, and creative activities, the event reinforced the importance of inclusivity, gender balance, and intersectoral cooperation in shaping a greener future.

Be Decent Green - WP8

8th Transnational Event – Pordenone, Italy | November 19–22, 2024

The city of Pordenone hosted the Be Decent Green meeting as part of the Green IT Your Work project, welcoming representatives from eight European countries to explore sustainability through the lens of social responsibility and urban innovation.

Sessions covered green hospitality, sustainable urban planning, and social inclusion, with contributions from local leaders and organizations like Park Hotel Best Western, Coop Noncello, and Pordenone’s Eurodesk. Highlights included the “15-Minute City” concept tour, a dissemination workshop with environmental journalist Elisa Cozzarini, and the collaborative Public Green Café event.

Visits to inclusive institutions and businesses provided hands-on insights into sustainability combined with social impact. The program reinforced the importance of equitable and accessible green transitions while offering practical tools for community-level change.
